Discover, Explore, and Unwind All Year Round
Each season brings something new to enjoy here on the Yorkshire coast and in the beautiful countryside that surrounds us. Spring is perfect for peaceful walks through wildflower meadows and along quiet country lanes. Summer brings long days exploring the beaches, local festivals, and seaside markets. In autumn, you can enjoy the golden colours of the hedgerows and cosy evenings by the fire after a day at one of the area’s many vintage or food events. And in winter, it’s all about wrapping up warm for bracing coastal walks, then coming home to relax in comfort and watch the stars appear in the clear night sky.
Whether you’re drawn to the coast, the countryside, or the charm of nearby towns and villages, there’s always something happening to make your stay special. From local shows and markets to bigger events in places like Bridlington, Pickering, and Whitby, you’ll find something to suit every interest throughout the year.
Our cottages are perfectly placed for exploring, yet peaceful enough to truly unwind. With no street lights nearby, nights here are wonderfully dark — step outside and you’ll see a blanket of stars stretching right across the sky. It’s one of those simple, unforgettable experiences that remind you just how magical the countryside can be.
So whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or a longer break, take a look at what’s on in the area below — and make Shire Cottage or The Carthouse your home from home while you discover the very best of this beautiful corner of Yorkshire.
